Is the bible scientifically accurate?

Most discussions which I see online regarding science and the bible tend to focus on the key question, "Is the bible scientifically accurate?

We really need to re-frame this question to "Does the bible contain science?"

Why? Simply because most people do not understand what science is and how it works. This post is a follow on from a previous question regarding literalism, inerrancy and scientific accuracy of the Bible.

Modern science is not a conclusion but a process. That process is called… Continue

Biblical inerrancy and literalism

I was asked a series of questions in my blog post "How big was Goliath really?" found here,

http://www.everyonesdestiny.com.au/profiles/blogs/how-big-was-goliath-really

The questions were quite broad and cover a whole range of issues. I'll attempt to address them in separate topics in my blog but please understand that the totality of these topics would cover volumes and not simply a series of blog posts… Continue

How big was Goliath really?

The story of David and Goliath comes up pretty regularly in sermons. I often go and research scriptures which take me down various rabbit trails after I review and meditate on a sermon. Often you will gain some interesting revelations which are quite different from our understanding of the scriptures which have been taught for many centuries.

A while ago, I was studying some of the variances which exist between the Masoretic text which is the basis for most modern English translations of the bi… Continue

The 2012 nutters are at it again

Well they're at it again and they're getting even crazier. Truth is obviously not a virtue with these people. Even more disturbing is that this blog post has now been duplicated on over 100 blogs / forums let alone the countless emails that include it. I received an email last week which is simply a copy of a blog post by a Jack Kelley. There are so many misrepresentations and outright falsehoods in this email I felt I needed to address some of these. An unfortunate and what is becoming an all t… Continue

Obama Appoints Evangelical Christian to head National Institute of Health

President Barack Obama has appointed Francis Collins, who previously headed up the HGP (Human Genome Project) as director of the National Institutes of Health.

In a statement, Obama said, "The National Institutes of Health stands as a model when it comes to science and research. My administration is committed to promoting scientific integrity and pioneering scientific research and I am confident that Dr. Francis Collins will lead the NIH to achieve these goa… Continue

Looking through the eye of the needle

I don't know about you, but I've always found the scriptures in Mat 19:34, Mk 10:25 and Luk 18:25 very interesting. The camel passing through the eye of the needle ones. Is it just me or does everyone else find this a really unusual turn of phrase?

Matthew puts it like this, "and again I say to you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God."

This verse speaks of impossibility unless of course you had a really huge blender handy.… Continue

The 21st Century Church

The 21st century church faces a raft of new opportunities and challenges that have not been evident in society to the same extent at any other period in the history of the church. Geographic boundaries are becoming less relevant as one person in the comfort of their lounge room can, at the click of a mouse button, communicate their thoughts in a nanosecond to a multi-national audience who can confirm, collaborate, comment or criticise via a range of interactive methods. Good news or bad, can be… Continue

Beliefs: Calvinism, Arminianism or something new....?

After the more well known schisms of orthodoxy v catholicism and catholicism and protestantism, the next great theological schism involved Calvinism versus Arminianism. Below I will outline the key 5 points of each position for you to compare against what you feel that the Holy Spirit has revealed to you. Are our beliefs along either of these lines, a combination of the two or are they now something altogether new which these two positions are incapable of encompassing?

Point 1

Calvinism

Reformation

There has been much talk recently about the church heading towards reformation. In discussions with a number of people, watching videos from prominent preachers of the word and reading a number of popular Christian web sites it appears that many do not actually understand what reformation of the church is, why it occurs and what it entails. To assist you all, I thought I'd provide you with some basic information about reformation as it relates to the body of Christ to date.

The movement began a… Continue

Self-Sustained Replication of an RNA Enzyme

Tracey A. Lincoln 1 and Gerald F. Joyce 1*

1 Departments of Chemistry and Molecular Biology and the Skaggs Institute for Chemical Biology, The Scripps Research Institute, La Jolla, CA 92037, USA.

An RNA enzyme that catalyzes the RNA-templated joining of RNA was converted to a format whereby two enzymes catalyze each other’s synthesis from a total of four oligonucleotide substrates. These cross-replicating RNA enzymes undergo self-sustained exponential amplification in the absence of proteins o… Continue

I think Frances Collins is a great example of the many streams of God and what science can show to many how amazing God is. It validates the diversities of Gods creation. Great video and a must see for anyone who struggles with their belief and science. Personally I've never had an issue with science but I know many who have and do. Sometimes we only know enough infomation to be dangerous. People like Fances who have dedicated their lives to this subject should be the imfomation we learn from and to educate ourselves with. We can learn alot from such people and to lead others who have a passion to be scientist for the future.

Yes exactly! That's what it's all about. We weren't meant to figure things out for ourselves ... were we? That's why we have control, so we know what we should think and say and do, who we should and shouldm't talk to. Maybe we should all get membership tatoos or uniforms as well so we will fit in better. Maybe we should all wear masks like in V for Vendetta so that we all look the same as well. Better still let's all become communists... yay!

So, any other site such as Hotmail, or ED that dosen't have an "S" after the http, is safe to use?

I have tried all morning to get into my hotmail account but the server wouldn't allow me and said that the certificate was out of date.
I then bypassed this as it allowed me to continue but warned me against it as it was unsafe.
I have since logged on and everything seems fine.
Any suggestions????

I have plugged it into Daniels laptop, and still nothing happens.
I am using Vista.
I have had a look in disc management and it dosen't have the drive there. (H)
I was also going into a repair shop tomorow and get them to check the power lead that runs from the external hard drive to the power point and see if that is not faulty. I figure if there is no power getting to it, then there is no reason for the computer to recognize it.

I wonder if you can offer some advice.
I have an Asus Laptop where i have connected (A while ago) a Maxtor 500GB external hard drive. Everything has been working fine, now all of a sudden i turn my laptop on and the external drive is not working any more. The comp dosen't even register any device is there. Unfortunately i have misplaced my warranty.
I have been reading alot of forums since and there is alot of problems out there for this type of HD.
Any suggestions?

Oh, i was promted only a few days ago to back everything up on disk (Which i have done), but i would like to get my HD working again.
